In October the harvesting of olives for oil is well on its way!
We were in Umbria in Italy and our wonderful Italy Team Max , took us to Feliziani’s Oil Factory in Spoleto.
With a long line of oil making in the family, the owner showed us a wall full of vintage photos – and he was one of the young men in one of them!
With our host Max interpretting for us, we learned about the incredible history and process of the olives that make some of the most delicious olive oils.
First we went outside to see where they inititally place the picked olives to begin the process.
The machines outside seperated the olives from the branches.
Next we went back inside to the machines that started the pressing process.
It was so amazing to see the neon like green color of oil! That’s what we call FRESH!
After an incredibly informative tour around the oil press, he took us into the show room and there, with his wife and grandson, they introduced us to some serously awesome bruschetta with new olive oil. OH. MY. GOODNESS! Amazing!!!
Of course we had some yummy wine too. 🙂 We are in Italy, hello!
I loved how the Nonna looked on as her grandson prepared our bruschetta and soup. It’s all in the family!
Onto the open fire stove beside the brick oven the bread smothered in new olive oil went. I can still taste it!
We were all speechless!
The Feliziani family has been making some of Umbria’s most lovely olive oil since 1800. They still used their ancient methods up until 15 or so years ago when they got modern equipment that does the same exceptional quality.
Feliziani’s – one of the many treasures of Umbria. And one of the places we visit on our Travel Experiences and GO LOCAL! RoadTrips to Italy. 🙂
