Agiasos in Autumn – a beautiful traditional village on the island of Lesvos, Greece
Agiasos in autumn is my favourite time to visit this mountain village on our favourite Greek island, Lesvos.
“Located on the slopes of Mount Olympus at an altitude of 475 meters and 27 kilometers from Mytilini, Agiasos has exceptionally rich vegetation, traditional architecture and unique inhabitants.
Agiasos is a registered artistic and religious settlement with a distinctive dialect and cultural atmosphere that visitors will surely find interesting.
It is surrounded by arable land, olive groves, forests and steep cycling and hiking trails and has a total area of 79,900 Km.
The village itself is a completely traditional village with narrow stone streets (traditionally preserved) and picturesque lanes.
Its most important attraction is the Byzantine church of Panagia Agiasou built in 1170 in the heart of the small town of Lesvos.
The center of Agiasos has a lot to offer visitors with many ceramic and wood shops, traditional cafes and taverns where visitors can try delicious dishes such as “ yapratsia ” (stuffed wine leaves), “ futes ” ( stuffed or fried zucchini), “ ptaria ” (meatballs), or the wonderful “ tegania ” accompanied by a delicious “ Greek salad ”, full of virgin oil from Agiasos and also find locally produced products such as local jams, wood carvings etc.”
But don’t take my word for it. Come visit it yourself!
