The Stunning RIAD SALEM in Fes || Morocco Destination Highlight
Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when we entered Riad Salam in Fes.
As we walked down the narrow streets of the medina, the exteriors, as per Moroccan custom, were plain, with no indication of what was inside. Once in a while a nice door, but for the most part, simple, plain, nothing out of the ordinary.
Even the door to the Riad we would be staying at wasn’t spectacular at all. Normal looking. Nothing fancy.
Riads are traditional Moroccan houses or palaces with an interior garden or courtyard. The word riad comes from the Arabian term for garden, “ryad”. I had seen photos of what riads looked like – everything from simple to elaborate.
When we walked by the reception desk, passed the small wall fountain and into the lobby, I was in utter awe.
It was like nothing I had ever seen before, nor imagined!
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, Riad Salam was recently restored to recapture the glory of its jaw-dropping interiors. Take a look for yourself…
The Terrace. The view was spectacular of the city! As well as the places to lounge, or eat dinner (which we had our dinner one night up on the terrace and it was amazing!) were all so detailed and wonderful to relax in.
Then I decided to wander from the top all the way to bottom, seeing what other lovely things I could happen upon. The details everywhere were so breathtaking…
At the bottom floor is not only the lobby where one fountain is, but then the garden where the restaurant is and pool.SOOOO gorgeous.
Yes, Riad Salam Fes is definitely a highlight when in Fes. And I highly recommend it. The staff are so lovely and helpful and I cannot wait to bring more of my FYH guests to this treasure. 🙂
