I had the pleasure meeting Neco (prounounced Nay-Jo) 2 trips ago bringing some of my guests to Turkey.

Neco has been in the carpet making business for over 25 years. He started as a young boy and into his young adulthood continued and today is one of the most well-known in his field. He has people from around the world coming to him to find them the PERFECT carpet.

At Yuksel Carpet, who are authorized dealers of the Hereke Carpet Weavers Association, not only do they have some of the most beautiful carpets and most unique from all different eras and styles, but the way they make them is awesome – they have women who are part of the coop, and either work there at the showroom, at home, or in their village in other parts of the country. All their products are then sold through this association when they are done, and they are commissioned for their pieces at a very fair price. It’s a win win – they make exquisite carpets and are supported through this weavers association!

At the showroom in Cappadocia, there is also a place where you can see first hand, how they get the silk from the silkworms, for the silk made carpets. It’s crazy cool!

Of course, there is always time for a good selfie 🙂

Once our guests have seen how the silk is retrieved from the silk worms, we are shown to a room, FULL of carpets. But are first asked what we would like to drink – Turkish Tea, Turkish Coffee or Turkish Wine!

Neco then begins to tell us, with his amazing knowledge and passion, about the various types of carpets – wool on wool, cotton on wool, silk, and I probably forgot others! There are kilim carpets too…ya…that’s a familiar word!

He, with the help of his staff, show us every type of carpet from every era in Turkey. It’s so fascinating!

We are even allowed to walk on them and touch them and lay on them… 🙂

The number of carpets in the entire facility is thousands upon thousands – rolled, hanging on walls, on floors.OVERWHELMING! And yet, the staff all know which kind are where! Talk about AMAZING!

It was my 4th trip to Turkey and I had been eyeing a certain type of carpet since the first time I saw them – These were the final two that it came down to. Can you guess which one I FINALLY decided to bring home? 🙂 The one on the right 🙂

Here are just SOME of the carpets that our last group brought home! And some of us already had ours packed up!
