Real Life Travel Experience

Khamsa (Hand of Fatima)

Little Things I Love About...I have seen the Hand of Fatima, or Khamsa, many times before. But didn’t know the meaning of it or history. Fatima was the prophet Mohammed’s daughter and it is said that when you put the symbol of her hand on your door, or anywhere else, it does the same thing that the Greeks and Turks believe about the “evil” blue eye – keeps evil away. I saw it in many places while in Morocco – hanging on walls, as door knockers, in jewelry…in fact even one of my most favorite pieces of jewelry I bought in Rissani has one on it. Believer or not in the evil eye, it’s a lovely emblem no less.
