Burano – the colorful island in the Venice Lagoon || Destination Review

There’s something about Burano that is so surreal…why, it must be the houses. the fact that they are all different vibrant colours.

as i quote from WIKIPEDIA:

Burano is also known for its small, brightly-painted houses, popular with artists. The colours of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of its development; if someone wishes to paint their home, one must send a request to the government, who will respond by making notice of the certain colours permitted for that lot.”

Ok, if that isn’t rad enough, they are known for making such amazing lace, like this lady who was among so many women just sitting outside of their bright colourful home making lace. You know, it’s what you do on Burano during the day. 😉

The little island is a short 40 minute vaporetto (boat) ride from the island of Venezia (my lovely Venice!) so it’s one of those things you really don’t want to pass up when you go to Venezia!

I also have a fascination for laundry hanging in Italy..it’s what I had in my head before the first time i went to ITALY and when I saw it, I was like, YES! It’s really here! 🙂

You may even get greeted off the vaporetto like i did, from a sweet old man like this! 🙂

Burano is full of history in it’s small little island that covers 21 hectares and has about 2800 residents.

Don’t miss going to this small, colorful island. 🙂
